Fly into Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (3,500m). Rest day for acclimatisation.
Visit Leh Palace, Jama Masjid, and the Hall of Fame museum.
Cross Khardung La (5,359m). Descend into Nubra Valley for an evening double-hump camel safari.
Drive from Nubra to Pangong Tso (160 km). The lake changes colour every hour. Overnight camp by the lake.
Sunrise over Pangong. Return to Leh via Chang La pass.
Visit Alchi Gompa, Basgo, and Likir Monasteries.
Rest and acclimatisation day. Optional rafting on the Zanskar River or a day trip to Tso Moriri.

I was impatient about the two rest days in Leh before we went anywhere, but our guide was right to insist. Nobody in our group got altitude sick, unlike two other groups we met at Pangong who'd rushed straight there.
